She’s a pillar of the skating world, but tonight it was Jayne Torvill's outfit that first wowed the crowd as she towered above them in a glorious golden gown to kick off proceedings for Dancing on Ice 2013!
Jayne's flowing skirt was dreamt up by DOI costume designer Stephen Adnitt and made by Rita Best, who used 100 metres of gold lamé and 150 metres of ribbon to create the showstopping piece. She worked for around 36 hours to finish the skirt, which is 9 metres long and 24 metres around the bottom - telling us her major problem was finding a space big enough to cut it!
It’s fair to say Jayne was the envy of most of the ladies in the audiences as she gracefully glided into the arms of Matt Evers, Shayne Ward and Matt Lapinskas during the opening sequence. She certainly started the proceedings in style, now the hard work begins...
