Jayne was introduced to skating at the age of 8 during a school trip to Nottingham – and she’s hardly stopped since.

She began skating with Christopher Dean in 1975 entered their first Winter Olympics in 1980 at Lake Placid in the USA, finishing fifth.

Bur their greatest moment came at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. Performing the now legendary Bolero routine on Valentines Day of that year, the pair stunned a British TV audience of over 24 million, earning full marks from all nine judges and a gold medal.

No dancing pair had ever received full marks in a skating competition before, and it is a record that remains intact to the present day.

Chris first stepped on to the ice at the age of 10 after receiving a pair of skates for Christmas.

He began skating with Jayne Torvill in 1975, while keeping up his job in the police. But he soon gave that up to focus on a skating career – and it paid off when he won gold with Jayne at the Sarajevo Olympics in 1984.

Turning professional the same year, they began creating routines for themselves and produced their own ice shows, including Fire and Ice.

Torvill & Dean competed in their third Winter Olympics at Lillehammer in Norway in 1994, winning a bronze medal. That year they also won gold at the European Championships.

In 2000 they were awarded OBE’s for their outstanding contributions to skating and to British sport and have been a driving force on Dancing On Ice since 2006.
