Our Daybreak baker Sue Jameson presents 1D's birthday boy with a cake as the team celebrate with the boys
Cake-baker extraordinaire Sue said: "It is undoubtedly the best moment! You spend nearly 2 days making a cake - baking, designing, icing, moulding figures etc. And then there’s that split-second moment when the person sees the cake specially made for them and, hopefully their eyes sparkle and they say “ Wow” or 'Is that really for me?”]' or 'I’m allergic to eggs (nightmare!).
"I really loved that moment this morning when the boys from One Direction saw Niall’s 18th birthday cake and literally rushed across the studio to have a closer look and quickly started pulling their sugar –selves apart! Frankly Niall must be the only young man getting up at 5am on his 18th birthday so more than deserves a vast amount of very rich chocolate cake. He took himself and the top tier away and the rest of the Daybreak crew descended, reducing a vast cake to crumbs in a few minutes.
"But the baking is on hold for the next three weeks as political conference season starts this weekend and I shall be immersed in parties that don’t involve any cake whatsoever!"
