New research out today highlights the increasing number of women getting lung cancer - as the number of cases in men goes down.
More than eight million people in England smoke and it remains the nation's biggest killer with half of long-term smokers dying prematurely from a smoking-related disease.
In an effort to address this, Public Health England's stop smoking campaign is back. Stoptober encourages smokers to quit for 28 days, and so far nearly 200,000 people have signed up to take part. We speak to ex-Emmerdale actress Kelsey Beth Crossley, who is trying to give up, and Dr Hilary Jones, who has advice for quitters.
