TV star Todd Carty is urging the Government to introduce a new law which would make it compulsory for dogs to wear seat belts in cars.
The former Eastenders actor is hoping David Cameron will take the lead after his dog nearly died after jumping out his vehicle and running under a 4x4 car.
Fortunatley, his beloved pug survived but Todd,47, is hoping other dog lovers will join a campagin for canine safety guidelines while travelling.
Thousands of accidents are caused every year by dogs travelling in cars without suitable restraint, resulting in fatal and serious injuries to both dogs and owners.
With eight million of us having a canine pal, Britain is a nation of dog lovers and Todd has teamed up with TV vet Charles Bagnall and the RAC to call for adequate safety measures for dogs in moving vehicles to be enforced by law.
