Grainne takes a sub zero tour of one of the world's coolest hotels
Swedish Lapland: Northern Lights & the Icehotel:
Lapland is in fact a region covering Sweden, Finland and Norway however Swedish Lapland has many distinct characteristics including the last remaining expanse of wilderness in northern Europe. With breathtaking scenery, including spectacular forests and stunning mountains, Swedish Lapland is larger than the whole of the UK covering 109,702 km² and is home to 250,000 people including 20,000 indigenous Sami, 120,000 reindeer and 65,000 snowmobiles!
Both the Icehotel and Abisko, as featured in Daybreak’s festive weather reports, are accessible in under 3½ hours from London Heathrow for a short weekend break. We travelled to Lapland on Discover the World’s direct flight to Kiruna (just 20 minutes from the Icehotel) – the only direct flight from the UK.
We stayed at the ICEHOTEL - Click here for more info
We also visited the Abisko Sky Station to try to spot the Northern lights - Click here for more info
