First ever 30 month’s debt shift, £8 champers, possible £100 Vax steam cleaner for £25, free tea and more. These are Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis’ Deals of the Week.
Remember, deals can change quickly, even while I’m on the programme. So always double-check the terms and conditions before spending. Plus, while I hope these deals will save you cash, don’t spend if you can’t afford it, don’t need it, or won’t use it.
Longest ever 0% debt-shift card
There’s a price war raging in the balance transfer market. It’s good news for consumers, as it means you can cut the cost of existing debts even further. A balance transfer is when you get a new card that pays off existing cards for you, so you owe it instead, at a lower rate - meaning more of your repayments clear the actual debt.
Accepted new Barclaycard customers now get 30 months 0% (18.9% representative after that) for a one-off 2.9% fee – that’s nearly double the length of the longest card five years ago – so much for the credit crunch. If you can repay quicker though, there are cards with lower fees that will be cheaper. Accepted new Lloyds customers get 24 months 0% with just a 1.5% fee and Halifax customers 15 months 0% with just a 0.8% fee (both are 17.9% representative APR after). More options, including how to find out if you’ll get these cards, in Martin’s full Best Balance Transfers guide.
Always remember the balance transfer golden rules though a) Repay at least the set monthly minimum, or you may lose the low rate b) Aim to clear the debt or shift again before rates rocket. c) Don't spend on these, it isn't usually at the cheap balance transfer rate. d) Never withdraw cash, it's at a hideous rate and can hit your credit score.
Antoine De Clevecy bubbly is currently reduced to £13 a bottle (usually £22) in-store and online at Sainsbury’s. And until Sunday 3 November, buy six bottles of the stuff and you get a further 25% discount (maximum of 36 bottles per customer) – though buy online and discount confusingly only shows on delivery (which, needs to be by 11.59pm Saturday 2 November) - bringing it down to £58.50 (equivalent to £9.75 a bottle).
However, if you're a NEW Sainsbury's online customer, you can then cut the cost even further to £7.99 a bottle. That’s because there’s a £15 off £60 Sainsbury’s code at VoucherCodes. Though as this your basket’s slightly under £60, you’ll need add something else costing at least £1.50 to bring it over the limit (remember this is after the 25% discount, which won’t show up, so it is tricky).
While this all sounds fiddly, it’s not the first incarnation of this deal and it worked fine last time. In the unlikely event the worst comes to the worst and the champagne is delivered without the discount, just refuse delivery and you’ll get a refund in 3-5 days.
Martin’s quick deals
· Vax trick - £100 steam cleaner for £25. Order/buy a Steamworks SW1 steam mop for £25 from Argos and it’s often substituted with a Vax S87-T2 red steam mop instead, which is being sold for £100 at Sainsbury’s. So the substitution is a winner. If it doesn’t work, Argos’s returns policy just means you can get your money back. I’ve tried it at three stores, one was out of stock, but it worked in the other two – and there’s been lots of good feedback of successes, though of course it’s not guaranteed.
· Up to 25% off brands at HofF. Shop in-store or online at House of Fraser to get up to 25% off new season branded items, including men's, women's and kids' items as well as homeware and electricals. If you shop online, delivery's £3 or you can collect in-store for free. The promotion will be on until at least 11.59pm tomorrow (Friday 1 November).
· FREE tea/coffee every day at Waitrose. Sign up for a MyWaitrose loyalty card in-store or online and get a free regular tea or coffee every day. Choose from Americano, cappuccino, latte, tea, mocha or espresso (decaf options are also available in some stores. Mocha and Espresso are available in selected stores only). If you sign up online, it takes up to five weeks for the card to be posted to you, so it's quicker to sign up for a temporary card in-store. There's no minimum spend, simply walk in and show your card.
