Train and coach deals

  • Triple Tesco vouchers' value on rail fares: If you’ve got Tesco Clubcard points, you can triple their value via its rewards scheme and then redeem on train fare company Redspottedhanky, meaning a £20 voucher buys £60 worth of train tickets.
  • £1 train and coach tickets: Sister companies Megatrain and Megabus offer fares across England and Scotland, while Megabus (but not Megatrain) also serves Wales. If you're lucky, you'll pay £1 each way, plus a 50p booking charge per transaction. Fares from a quid include Liverpool to London, Aberdeen to London, Southampton to London, Bath to London and Glasgow to Preston.
  • £9 National Express coach tickets anywhere: National Express is selling £9 coach tickets anywhere, anytime for one-way journeys, eg, Penzance to Edinburgh, usually about £83. Travel can be booked for journeys up to 30 September 2011, although the offer ends at 11.59pm today, so hurry if you want to get tickets. National Express says there aren't many tickets left, but when we searched there were quite a few, so try your luck.

Theme parks and days out

Always check for excluded dates for specific parks on the vouchers before going.

  • 2for1 theme park tickets with £10 Co-op spend: Spend £10+ in Co-op stores and get TWO 2for1 vouchers valid at Thorpe Park, Chessington, Warwick Castle, Madame Tussards, Legoland, The Dungeons and Sea Life Centres. Typical ticket prices are over £30, so it's a big saving, although check for exclusions first as the vouchers can only be used on certain dates.
  • Until Sunday, there are also 2for1s on some promo packs of Vanish (costing c. £2), valid for Legoland Windsor, Alton Towers, Warwick Castle and Sea Life centres. But if it's Alton Towers you want to visit, you can get the best deal currently on offer by getting a 2for1 voucher when you buy a promo pack of Fox's biscuits (£1.30). Vouchers are valid until 6 November, but check the ts&cs first. Offer on while stocks last.
  • 2for1 at London Zoo (normally £18.60), Churchill war rooms (norm £15.95) and many more attractions: 2for1 vouchers are currently available on National Rail's 'Days Out Guide' scheme for scores of theatres, museums and attractions across the UK. The key is you need a train ticket to get them. Yet, as you can easily save £15+ showing a ticket to get in, even if you’re not going by train you could just nip into a nearby station, buy the cheapest ticket (£2ish) and present that.
  • Free museums: They include biggies such as the Natural History Museum in London, The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, plus Big Pit National Coal Museum in Wales and Savings Banks Museum (with bank notes and coins from across the globe) in Scotland.

Free kids sports activities

  • Free activities including skiing, sailing and horse riding: Buy select Nestlé items and get vouchers for a host of free activities, including horse riding, scuba diving, snowboarding, white water rafting and more at over 5,000 UK venues until 31 August 2012. Activities cost between five and 90 points and the amount of points varies by product. For the best value for money, you can get 100 points for £4 when you buy four lots of 5-pack Kit Kat Chunkies (20 bars in total), Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles or Smarties (worth 25 points each), which are all on offer for £1 at Tesco till 2 August 2011.
  • Free tennis coaching and court use: Get free tennis coaching sessions and free use of thousands of tennis courts across the UK through a scheme from charity, Tennis For Free. Check if there's a venue or free coaching near you on the Tennis For Free website (see the useful links section).
  • Free high-tech treasure hunts: If you've a GPS navigation system, geocaching is a fun, free way to put a smile on kids' faces. It's a giant high-tech treasure hunt where you search for 'geocaches', which are tupperware boxes filled with tiny treasures hidden by other geocach fans (we're talking plastic kids' toys, not iPods). See the useful links for more info.
