Lucy's Biography

Before joining Daybreak, Lucy Verasamy was the regular weather presenter on the Sky News breakfast show Sunrise. During her time at Sky, Lucy covered severe weather events, including the recent record-breaking cold, snowy winters and has reported on hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones and other extreme weather-related phenomena. Lucy also presented the weather for Five News lunchtime and evening bulletins.

A trained meteorologist, Lucy graduated from university in 2001 with a degree in Geography and Earth Sciences. After graduating, Lucy spent four years working at the Press Association’s weather centre (now Meteogroup) as a forecaster, writing forecasts for newspapers and radio.

Lucy said:

Tuning in to the morning forecasts is routine for most people planning for the day ahead. People want to know if they should grab a brolly before leaving the house, or if they should reach for their sunglasses. It’s a big talking point in the UK as our weather is so varied and no two days are the same. It’s the perfect ice breaker when strangers meet. The weather affects us all and everyone has opinion on it.

As well as being the light-hearted part of the show with us grumbling about a bit of rain, it can also have a more serious side. When weather is extreme it becomes the main news story, proved by the last few record breaking and exceptionally cold, snowy winters. With climate change, weather and environment becoming increasingly topical issues – rarely a day goes by without a story in the press or news as we try to understand and adapt to the changing world we live in.
