How the romance started...
The This Morning sofas has played host to an array of famous and influential derrieres over the years, so when the task came to update and replace it; DFS, sofa leaders in ‘making everyday more comfortable’, were the ones selected for the job.
DFS were asked to create a design 'more up to date in shape', and then presented many frame shapes and fabric combination concepts to Clara Zita, the show’s set designer, and her team.
The ergonomics of the sofa had to be quite different to household designs. The seat height is lower, seat depth shorter, and the angle of the back is more upright, to ensure the correct posture for the presenters.
The sofa is hand crafted in durable 100% polyester knitted velvet fabric in bright fuchsia in keeping with This Morning’s branding. The seat and back cushions are permanently fixed to ensure they keep their appearance when the sofa is moved on and off set.
DFS’s finished design was sent from their Derbyshire factory to the South Bank, London Studio for its very own screen test to evaluate on-set scale and on-camera colour. The sofas passed their audition and green light was given to make 2 sofas and 2 chairs which were delivered ready for the January debut.
