David Suchet: Hercule Poirot
Over the years Poirot has not changed. With his immaculate black moustache, slicked-back hair and rotund frame, Poirot is instantly recognisable. Pure logic and an ability to recreate crime scenes in his mind are his stock in trade. He is hugely intelligent and it all comes from his “little grey cells”.
Hugh Fraser: Captain Hastings
Hastings is a private detective who shows huge courage and deep loyalty to Poirot. He is an essential part of many novels, although he doesn’t always realise the true importance of what he finds. He once had to choose between the Belgian sleuth and his wife. He chose Poirot.
Philip Jackson: Chief Inspector Japp
Poirot can be irritated by the man he first met in 1904, especially when he arrests all the wrong people. Japp is an extrovert and sometimes thoughtless. Poirot is happy to give him credit for solving crimes that he has himself solved. In return, Japp turns a blind eye to his “amateur” meddling.
Pauline Moran: Miss Felicity Lemon
Poirot’s secretary and an awesomely efficient aide. She marvels at his mental capabilities and he appreciates her attention to detail. Poirot values her because she never takes up his time with trivia, bringing to his attention only matters of importance.
Zoe Wanamaker: Ariadne Oliver
An infrequent character but one that steals the scene with her hair styles and eye-catching wardrobe. She is real bother to Poirot and he has no time for her silly detective novels featuring a Finnish sleuth.
