Check out our pick of the best Frost episodes.

An Endangered Species

Frost is called to investigate when a couple return from holiday to find the body of a stranger in their bed. He also becomes involved in a murder inquiry and uncovers a crime ring involved in the importing of endangered species and illegal animal goods.

However, all this work doesn't leave him much time to devote to his latest romantic interest. (This episode replaces Dancing in the Dark in your TV listings).

Near Death Experience, broadcast September 2005

Frost's trusted sergeant George Toolan is seriously injured as the pair prevent a young man's suicide and Frost is accused of risking his friend's life by breaking regulations.

His problems increase when a murder is committed on his patch and the ritualistic killing echoes a previous case.

Another woman is murdered in what seems to be a direct challenge to Frost. The serial killer is clever, leaving no forensic evidence, but Frost uncovers a mistake providing a vital clue to his identity and where he might strike next.

As the killer continues to outwit the police, Frost's ambitious new colleague Martine Phillips seems to be the next target. In a desperate gamble to stop another killing, he puts his own life on the line as he finally corners the murderer.

Held In Trust, broadcast September 2003

Frost faces one of the worst tests of his career: he is up for promotion from CID to the uniformed division. But thoughts of this are put aside when a boy goes missing.

Has he been snatched or is he, unlikely as it seems, a runaway? Things take a turn for the worse again and again during the investigation when a man killed in a hit-and-run seems to be connected to the boy's family.

Another child’s body is found and it couldn't get worse. Then Frost makes the biggest mistake of his career.

Hidden Truth, broadcast January 2003

While protecting a drugs-case witness and her son in a safe house, Frost discovers that he has mislaid his winning lottery ticket.

This pales into insignificance when a hitman narrowly fails to kill the woman, and subsequently a police officer is killed. But the captured suspect has an unassailable alibi, there is a traitor in the police ranks, and the woman is not perhaps all she seems.

Benefit of the Doubt, broadcast January 2001

Much to his chagrin, Frost is teamed up with DS Reid (Robert Glenister), and they find themselves working an unpleasant murder.

But Frost's detective skills face a tough challenge when he is caught up in a case of mistaken identity, a missing doctor involved in the death of a young boy on the operating table and a surprise from his own past.

Line of Fire, broadcast December 1999

There's little in the way of Christmas cheer for Frost when a local power station worker plunges to his death in a mysterious accident and on the same day his home is vandalised.

To make matters worse, Regional Crime Squad Detective, Tim Fox, is murdered on Frost's patch all and the evidence points to police corruption. This was a two-parter.

Appendix Man, broadcast March 1999

Appendix Man begins with Frost tendering his resignation following the death of his protege DS Barnard. But he is soon back.

His return coincides with that of a new detective sergeant who is in the early stages of her investigation into the death of a reclusive art collector.

Frost is involved when fingerprints are identified as belonging to the man pulled out of the Denton River more than a year before.
