Acclaimed hitman drama The Fixer will return for a “bigger and better” second series in 2009 after making a big impression on ITV’s new director of television Peter Fincham.

Production company Kudos will shoot six more hour-long episodes as state-sponsored assassin John Mercer takes his business on the dark side of the law to a whole new level.

The adrenaline levels are set to move up through the gears as stars Andrew Buchan, Tamzin Outhwaite, Peter Mullan and Jody Latham all reprise their key roles.

Peter Fincham enthuses: “The Fixer was a gripping first series that had an unmistakable touch of class. I'm delighted that it's coming back - it'll be bigger and better than ever.”

Jane Featherstone, executive producer and joint managing director of Kudos, adds: “We’re thrilled to be bringing The Fixer back and look forward to more fun and action from our unique team of renegade crime fighters.”

Jane Featherstone (Ashes to Ashes, Life on Mars, Spooks, Hustle) and Simon Crawford Collins (Ashes to Ashes, Spooks, Hustle) will executive produce and Faith Penhale (The Fixer series 1) will produce the second series. The Fixer is written by creator Ben Richards (Party Animals, Spooks, No Angels).
