Professor Nick Cutter leads an elite band of scientists on a quest to save Earth in Primeval series two

The world is in danger of being destroyed by its past, and a small band of scientists are the only ones who can save it.

“Something we have done has changed the past… Oh my God,”  were the last words of Professor Nick Cutter at the end of series one.

That ‘something’ has cut holes into the fabric of the universe. The relationship between space and time has been corrupted and anomalies are appearing. Wild beasts from the fourth dimension are spanning eons and invading the present.

In the second series, starting in early 2008, we’ll see its total impact.

To make matters worse, Cutter has realised that his estranged wife, Helen, has cheated on him. On top of that, Claudia Brown, the woman who loves him, has been erased from history.

Co-creator, Adrian Hodges, won’t reveal what happens to Helen and Nick. He told itv.com: “I want the fans to keep guessing about that for an awfully long time. Their relationship is a crucial part of the story and we have a long way to go with it.”

The drama intensifies in the second series as anomalies spread. “They are becoming more and more prolific,” says Adrian. “They will crop up in much more dangerous places. The team has to discover why they are happening and what it means for mankind.”

But, as some fans already know, the team is getting a new home. The producers aren’t revealing anything just yet, but the Anomaly Research Centre or ARC is their new HQ.

“It’s top secret and state of the art,” adds Adrian. “It has been built to track the creatures and has been monster-proofed so they can’t attack it.”

So what are the series two highlights?

In one episode a family of raptors go wild in the aisles of a local shopping mall, a sabre-tooth runs amok at an amusement park in another, and then a woolly Mammoth holds up traffic on the M25.
