Eric Pollard

Eric Pollard is the local crook. He has systematically conned, robbed or swindled most people in the village. Yet despite his reputation he has a softer side, taking pity on Sam Dingle on more than one occasion. As Pollard approaches retirement he has begun to appreciate the simple things in life and while still a rogue he simply doesn’t have the energy to continue his scamming ways.

History

1986

• Pollard, the auctioneer and manager of Hotten Market, arrives in the village

1992

• Marries Elizabeth Feldman despite almost being late for the ceremony

1993

• Wanders around in a daze looking for Elizabeth after the plane crash proclaiming "I shouldn't have done it". Is still suspected of murdering Elizabeth by the locals to this day

1997

• Despite some bumbling interference from Sam Dingle, Eric marries Dee Margharita De La Cruz, a mail order bride he met while in the Philippines

1998

• After his business starts to fail, Marlon catches Pollard throwing petrol all over the wine bar. He admits he wants to kill himself but is eventually talked round

2002

• Sharing a thirst for power, Pollard marries Gloria Weaver but spends his wedding night with another councillor in a bid to ensure his election as Mayor

2004

• Thinking Gloria had died in the storm Pollard is horrified when he receives a tape in the post of her sunning herself on a beach. She tells him to check the bank accounts and he realises he has been had

2007

• When the DNA results prove that Pollard is David's biological father he is surprised but happy. He later apologises to David for what he did to his mother and the pair reconcile their differences
• Unlikely hero Eric Pollard rescues Pearl from the fire at Annie's Cottage/Jacob’s Fold.
• Plays one of the ugly sisters in CinderBella

2008

• After a stormy relationship marred by lies, deceit and even blackmail and kidnap Pollard finally marries Val

2009

• At a council party Pollard is embarrassed when he takes blind Lizzie to enhance his political position and it’s revealed that she wears a tag
• When asked by Sam, Pollard agrees to give Olena a trial at the B&B. He almost changes his mind when Sam reveals her illegal status but announces her as the new maid when Terry and Val enter

2010

• Depressed over the turn of events regarding Olena and the impending Border Agency fine, a drunk Pollard falls down the stairs in the B&B while investigating a noise
• Terry decides he's had enough of the Pollards and takes early retirement. Eric and Val buy him out of the B&B and move in

2011

• Eric and Val foster Amy
• Eric, Val and Amy move into one of the Sharmas' new barn conversions
• Eric and Val are horrified to hear that Amy has had a baby, alone, when they didn't even know she was pregnant
• Eric grows concerned that Val is becomming attached to Amy's baby
• Eric supports Amy's decision to give Kyle up for adoption, much to the annoyance of Val

2012

• Is devasted when Val leaves for Portugal
• Bounces back when Brenda helps out at the B&B, leading to more than friendship
