Marlon Dingle

Marlon is very proud of his career as a chef which he has worked hard to achieve, but his hissy fits mean he can sometimes be a figure of fun. He and best friend Paddy have become a comedy duo in the village - always poking fun at each other. Marlon has been unlucky in love but he is a proper romantic and just wants to find Miss Right and settle down. He's a big softy with a heart of gold!

History

1996

• Marlon arrives - the girl driving the car throws his belongings out after him and roars off; Mandy immediately recognises her cousin

1997

• Causes the early launch of Barry's rocket which blows up the barn

2000

• Is best man at Butch's wedding and makes his peace with him before he dies

2002

• Proposes to Tricia
• Is shocked to see cousin Chastity as the stripper for his stag do

2004

• Tricia's death

2006

• Marlon's wedding to Donna seems doomed by a series of unfortunate events, including Donna admitting to loving someone else, but it goes ahead without a hitch; eventually (double wedding with Viv/Bob)

2007

• Marlon is shot by Eli during the bookies robbery. He technically dies, but is brought back to life

2008

• After a long and stressful day full of cancelled waiting staff and missing vegetables, Marlon impresses Anthony Worrall-Thompson at the village fair

2009

• After discovering Donna's affair, Marlon shares a drunken kiss with Chas. Donna witnesses it and transfers to Essex
• Tells Moira he loves her

2010

• Makes a special effort with Rhona’s food over Paddy's, the first obvious sign of his growing feelings towards her
• Marlon's delighted when Rhona agrees to move in with him, but she doesn't seem so keen
• Is gutted (and baffled) when Rhona ends their relationship
• Marlon is hit by a double whammy when Rhona reveals she is pregnant with his child but then Paddy breaks the news that he and Rhona are now an item

2011

• Rhona and Marlon are told their baby has Down's Syndrome
• Rhona tells Marlon that she doesn't want him to have shared custody of their child
• Baby Leo is born
• Marlon and Laurel develop feelings for each other after spending time together at summer kids' club
