Bafta wins for Harry Hill and X Factor

ITV did the business at last night's Bafta TV Awards, scooping a string of prizes. The Bill led the charge, winning the first Bafta in its 25-year history.

Collecting the prize for the Best Continuing Drama, executive producer Jonathan Young said: "2008 was a fantastic year for us - we’re really really proud to have won this award and it really is a tribute to the whole team."

Harry Hill collected the award for Best Entertainment Performance for TV Burp for the second consecutive year, and joked: "I never thought I'd get three Baftas for a clip show. Ridiculous."

The X Factor also built on its Bafta record and was named Best Entertainment Show. Executive producer Richard Holloway said: "This is a particular thrill.  It was the fifth series, we try to make it bigger and better every year and last year we thought we made the best series we’d done."

ITV's final year of F1 coverage scooped the Sports Coverage award and there was a gong for News At Ten - the show's reports from the Chinese earthquake were named Best News Coverage.

Other winners included Wallander, which was named Best Drama Series, and the Best Comedy Programme award went to Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse.
