The Office: An American Workplace
Steve Carrell (Anchorman, 40-Year-Old Virgin) takes on the David Brent role in the hilarious US version of Ricky Gervais’ award-winning sitcom.
He plays Michael Scott, the spineless, self-obsessed and breathtakingly incompetent boss of Pennsylvania paper firm Dunder Mifflin. As in the original, the series is shot in a mockumentary style and the characters are only too aware of the camera as their daily humiliations and heartbreaks are caught on film.
John Krasinski plays "normal" Jim (the equivalent of Tim), with Jenna Fischer as downtrodden receptionist Pam and his love interest. And let’s not forget scene-stealing Dwight (Rainn Wilson), the bungling, Machiavellian assistant to the manager, who prefers to think of himself as the assistant manager.
The UK version picked up two Golden Globes, including best performer for Gervais. Not one to be outdone, Carell won the same award for his version just two years later.
