British sensation Slumdog walked away with Best Film, Best Director for Danny Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy amongst a host of other top gongs on a fun night at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
Host Jonathan Ross set a light tone from the start, which was punctuated with big laughter thanks to the likes of Best Actor winner Mickey Rourke and levity with the news that the late Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight.
Kate Winslet followed up her Golden Globe win with another Best Actress award for The Reader, while Spanish siren Penelope Cruz was a popular winner in the Best Supporting Actress category for Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Maverick director Terry Gilliam was rightly awarded the Academy Fellowship, while Adulthood's Noel Clarke won the Orange Rising Star Award.
The London awards have become more powerful with each passing year, therefore look for the winners to go on and achieve Oscar success on February 22 in most of the major categories.
