AFGHANISTAN MISSION
Ant and Dec came under rocket attack by the Taliban during a top secret mission to Afghanistan to salute the brave medics on the front line for Pride of Britain.

They were forced to dive for cover at Kandahar airport when a Taliban fighter fired a rocket-propelled grenade.

Shocked Ant, 32, said: “It was pretty hairy — not something I’d like to experience again.

“All the guys around us were pulling on body armour. We couldn’t believe how close we were to being hit.

“It just goes to show what our troops go through every day.”

Pal Dec, 33, said: “One minute everything was calm and the next the sirens were wailing.”

The Britain’s Got Talent hosts were about to catch a flight when the Taliban attacked.

Britain's favourite double act flew to the war zone to present an award to the courageous soldiers who put their own lives on the line to save others.

The pair witnessed the remarkable life-saving work of members of the Medical Emergency Response Team.

They also saw the medics in action, flying in casualties by helicopter, during their visit to the British base Camp Bastion in the Helmand province in southern Afghanistan.

They witnessed shocking scenes as victims of a roadside bomb attack were rushed to the field operating theatre.

Ant says: "We came here to visit the troops but nothing could prepare us for the reality of what the guys are going through on the ground."

Dec says: "We know there ís no award big enough for what they go through, but we hope that the Pride of Britain gives them at least some recognition for what they’re doing.

“Ant and I have got massive respect for the guys out here. It has given us memories that will last forever.”
