About Ade Edmondson
A man of many talents, Adrian Edmondson is a comedian, actor, writer and musician. Having starred in a number of television comedies and dramas over the last three decades, he’s most recently best known for his critically acclaimed ITV series The Dales featuring country life in the county he grew up in.
He’s also well known for his roles in the comedy series The Young Ones and Bottom, in the early 1980s and 1990s respectively. Adrian met his co-star and fellow writer of the sitcoms, Rik Mayall at Manchester University where he studied Drama. The two formed a stand-up double act called Twentieth Century Coyote, which they performed in clubs around the country in the late 1970s establishing them on the comedy scene.
Along with Mayall and other upcoming comedians Nigel Planer, Peter Richardson, Alexei Sayle, and French and Saunders, Edmondson set up a venue called the Comic Strip. One of the most popular clubs in London, 1982 saw Channel 4 commission a series called The Comic Strip Presents.
In 1985, Adrian married fellow comedian and co-star in The Comic Strip Presents and Happy Families, Jennifer Saunders with whom he has three daughters.
Adrian has appeared in the 1990 run of the West End Rocky Horror Show, a comedy called If you see God, Tell Him, Jonathan Creek, BBC film Miss Austen Regrets, Holby City and 2008 ITV sitcom Teenage Kicks.
In 2008, Adrian formed a punk/ folk band called the Bad Shepherds with songs played on traditional instruments. A hobby became a way of life having played hundreds of gigs in the last few years.
Adrian has always had a fascination for the wonderful warmth and richness of everyday Britain, originally born in Bradford, Adrian has most recently presented ITV series, The Dales, a series following the lives and work of people in Yorkshire.
Also a keen cook, Adrian has an enthusiasm for the traditional food we love, the history of our regions, and the very different characters of our people and communities across the country. This is what makes ‘Ade in Britain’ the perfect way to celebrate Britain’s rich culture.
