Sebastian Vettel added another accolade to his packed trophy cabinet when he picked up the International Racing Driver of the Year prize at the annual Autosport Awards in London.

Voted for by readers of Autosport magazine, the awards are widely regarded as the 'Oscars of motor racing'.

It was the second year in a row that Vettel had won the award, and he admitted being honoured at the event was very special for him.

"I don't know where to start, to be honest," Vettel said.

"Last year was my first time picking up one of these trophies, and it means a lot.

"I felt very honoured when I walked down the stairs and everyone, including lots of past and present racing drivers, was clapping, giving me appreciation and respect for what I have achieved.

"It made me feel very special."

Jenson Button's stellar season for McLaren earned him British Competition Driver of the Year honours, while Force India's Paul di Resta was named Rookie of the Year.

The awards' highest-profile accolade is the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, which sees one young British driver given a prize package that includes £50,000 towards their racing career and an F1 test with McLaren.

This year it was 18-year-old Formula Renault UK runner-up Oliver Rowland who picked up that prize, following in the footsteps of the likes of Button, di Resta, Anthony Davidson and David Coulthard.

Red Bull's all-conquering RB7 F1 contender was an unsurprising winner in the Racing Car of the Year category, while 1996 world champion Damon Hill picked up a Gregor Grant Award for his career achievements and contribution to motorsport.
