Sebastian Vettel was the star of the show once again in New Delhi's Kingdom of Dreams on Friday, as he collected the 2011 Formula 1 world champion's trophy at the FIA Prize Giving Gala.

Joined by second and third-place championship finishers Jenson Button and Mark Webber, Vettel was officially crowned for another year by FIA president Jean Todt.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner received his team's second constructors' trophy from F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

Vettel admitted that he would have been reluctant to return the trophy had he not successfully defended his title – which he did in emphatic style with 11 victories.

"It’s great to be here in India at the FIA Gala to collect my second drivers’ championship trophy,” said Vettel.

"I have had the trophy in my house all year and didn’t want to give it back, so this means a great deal to me.

"It’s hard to put into words how it feels to win again; the team stayed focused and made few mistakes and I would like to thank them for all their impressive efforts."

The 24-year-old is now F1's youngest ever double champion, and also set a new record for pole positions in a single season with 15.

Vettel said he was keen to keep making a mark on the record books.

"The history of Formula 1 means a lot to me and it’s special to know that we are now somehow a part of that," he said.

Horner paid tribute to both Vettel and the Red Bull team as he picked up their constructors' award.

“It’s phenomenal what the team has achieved this year,” said Horner. “To win 12 races and take 18 pole positions and 27 podiums to defend our title is something we are very proud of.

"I would like to thank every member of the team, including Mark and Sebastian for all their hard work. Receiving the award tonight is fantastic and a great end to what has been an incredible year."

He also reckons there is plenty more to come from Vettel.

"Seb’s achievement of becoming a double Formula 1 world champion is incredible," said Horner. "The fact he is the youngest ever to do this is testament to the exciting young talent that he is."
