Oscars DISASTER as La La Land is mistakenly handed best picture Oscar

The Oscars was plunged into chaos as La La land was mistakenly announced as the best picture with the actual winner being Moonlight.

In a historic Academy Awards upset Warren Beatty read out the wrong winner.

Shock spread through the Dolby Theatre when producers of "La La Land" were stopped in the middle of their acceptance speeches to be informed that Beatty had incorrectly announced them as the winners.

And it was a big night for La La Land, which proved the bookies right winning the most statuettes including Best Actress, Best Director and Best Soundtrack. However the moment of the night was when it was mistakenly announced as the winner of Best Picture - but the accolade actually belonged to Moonlight.

2017 Oscar nominations: La La Land dominates

The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were revealed today. La La Land has topped the leaderboard after receiving a staggering 14 nominations - equalling the record set by All About Eve and Titantic.

Stars of La La Land, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are up for the best actor and actresses awards, while the "over-rated" Meryl Streep - according to Donald Trump, has received her 20th Oscar nomination.

Late night comedian and TV host Jimmy Kimmel has been selected to host the ceremony which takes place on 26th February.

Who are these famous faces?

TV presenter Mariella Frostrop joins Reverend Richard Coles - Britain's most famous vicar and former member of 80's band the Communards - in search of the nation's best amateur artists in the BBC's The Big Painting Challenge.
