An 18-year-old girl has died from pneumonia after suffering from flu. Bethany Walker, from Applecross in the Scottish Highlands, died on Friday as three strains of the virus put pressure on health services across the UK. It comes as waiting time performances in accident and emergency departments reached their lowest level in 14 years, with staff describing patients 'dying prematurely' in their corridors before they are seen.
An eight-wheeler trailer truck landed on a car after falling from a highway overpass in Texas. The vehicle flipped over and landed on the road below after driving off the Highway 59 overpass in Sugar Land on Wednesday. Both the driver of the truck and the car survived the impact and were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A surgeon who admitted burning his initial on to the livers of two transplant patients has been sentenced to a 12-month community order and fined £10,000. Simon Bramhall admitted two charges of assault by beating at Birmingham Crown Court last month after prosecutors accepted his not guilty pleas to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Judge Paul Farrer QC accepted Mr Bramhall had "profound regret" about what he did and was "genuinely remorseful" - but noted that the "emotional impact on his victims had been extreme".
Facebook plans to make major changes to its newsfeed by prioritising posts from family and friends over those from media organisations, businesses and brands. Founder Mark Zuckerberg said in a post that the change is to make time spent on the platform 'more meaningful' for its users.
Donald Trump has denied using foul language during an Oval Office meeting about revamping rules affecting entrants from Africa and Haiti.
