I believe you can combine these things if you know how to manage your time
– Lord Heseltine
After former Chancellor George Osborne was appointed Editor of the London Evening Standard newspaper last week, questions have been raised over whether MPs should be allowed to have other jobs.
The Parliamentary Standards Committee is preparing to meet to discuss the issue as Osborne faces a growing public backlash, with a petition reaching 150,000 demanding he choose between being a backbench MP or working in a newsroom. The petition will be handed in later today at his constituency office in Tatton, Cheshire, which is 190 miles from the capital.
We spoke to former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Heseltine who told GMB that he doesn't think MPs shouldn't be forced to be utterly dedicated to Parliament and that it's more enriched for having members experienced in different skills.
