At least 36 people have been killed and dozens more injured in a horror train crash in Egypt, an official has said. It is understood two trains collided head on near the coastal city of Alexandria. There was no immediate information on what had caused the collision, but it is feared the death toll and the number of injured could rise further.

A woman has been rescued after a huge explosion devastated her home in Sunderland. It is understood the victim was pulled from the rubble following the blast in the Ryhope area of Sunderland on Friday morning. The explosion flattened the semi-detached property while the other half of the building was badly damaged, with part of its roof and wall ripped off.
A man will spend at least 20 years behind bars for the murder of his younger brother and the attempted murder of his sibling's girlfriend. Blair Logan poured petrol on his brother Cameron, 23, and his girlfriend and set them alight while they slept on New Year's Day.
