Arriving at the Savage Sewer Bushtucker Trial, Hugo was told that he had to enter the Trial through the entrance pipe into the main ‘sewer’ chamber.

In the chamber were six pipes. He had to enter all pipes in the correct numbered order, from one to six, finding the stars and untying them. There were eleven stars up for grabs and he had ten minutes to complete the Trial.

Hugo admitted that this was the worst Trial possible for him, given his fear of confined spaces, explaining: “I can’t even go on the tube in London, I hate it so much.”

Hugo headed into the sewer and was promptly joined by two pythons. As he attempted to release the two stars, a startled Hugo shouted, “Oh my God did he (the python) try and bite me!”  But like a true hero he persevered, retrieving the two stars.

As water flooded into the sewer, Hugo was on a roll - he grabbed two stars in the second pipe, which contained cane toads, and more stars in the third and fourth pipes.

The sewer continued to fill which meant that he had to put his head underwater to get to the entrance of pipe five.  When he saw that it contained spiders, he decided to pass and lost out on two stars.

Hugo entered the sixth and final pipe, only to be greeted by rats. He retrieved the star and exited the Trial.

Hugo successfully won nine meals for camp, but admitted to Ant & Dec, “I’m so disappointed by the spiders’ one. You had to put your head under the water (to get into the pipe) and I was already freaked out when I saw the spiders.”

On his way back into camp, Hugo added, “I’m not going to lift a finger for the rest of the day.  I’m going to really, really abuse my success now to make sure I get the best out of my day!”

Hugo returned to rapturous applause from his campmates - all except Eric, that is, who slept right through Hugo’s explanation of his dramatic Trial.

Wake up, Eric - grub's up!
