Many of the UK’s thousands of evangelical Christians are finding today’s society a difficult place in which to find their soul-mate. But thanks to a recent explosion of Christian dating agencies on the internet, Adam now has a new way to meet his Eve.
Edward Bonthrone runs dating website fusion101.com from the south coast of England and boasts a number of success stories since he set up business in 2000. The programme shows Edward at work in his office and follows agency members Tim and Tracey, who are finding that a lifestyle built around casual hook-ups and binge-drinking is a difficult context for a Christian to find a suitable partner.
The show also investigates the strict rule of sexual abstinence that all evangelical Christians are meant to observe before marriage and how this impacts on modern-day dating. It tackles why Christians find that sharing their life with another Christian is so much easier or preferable to settling down with a non-believer.
A Match made in Heaven looks at the idea that in every Christian relationship, God is present as a third party , that a relationship involving God is purer and more special than one which excludes him, and why individual Christians are so set against love between two men or women.
