Now she's fallen in love with charmer Tony Gordon, who unbeknown to her had Liam killed and this week she's due to give birth to Liam's baby with Tony by her side.
Maria, fed up with the baby being overdue, takes advice from Eileen who says that a long walk can bring on labour: "Tony drives Maria and her dog Ozzy to Southport Beach, Merseyside. There's miles of deserted sand and they walk to the furthest point - you just know that's when it's all going to happen!"
With no one in sight Tony is forced to help Maria give birth in a beach hut: "He manages to connect to 999, and the operator talks him through."
It becomes clear that Maria and Tony's friendship is developing into something more: "It's a bonding experience and definitely brings them closer together."
