Shappi shares her life as Iran's only female comic, an assassination attempt & her traumatic childhood all in her debut book and memoirs; 'A Beginner's Guide to Acting English'.
Despite difficult times, Shappi loved cracking jokes growing up: "Humour is a huge part of my family; I was praised more for making people laugh than for good grades."
For Shappi writing her memoir has been cathartic, both for her and her family: "My gran, who I hadn't seen for 16 years, came to visit from Iran and I interviewed her. She was married when she was 12 and her mother got married at nine. She wanted me to tell the story, warts and all."
Shappi Khorsandi : A Beginner's Guide to Acting English - released 2 July
