Jono and Laura join us to tell their heart-warming story of a love beyond looks.
After being born with the rare genetic condition Teacher Collins Syndrome (TCS), Jono Lancaster, 23, grew up being taunted at school and in public.
He was given up for adoption by his parents at 36 hours old as they didn’t think they could cope with his condition.
With the severe facial disfigurement that this disease causes Jono convinced himself he would never find love.
However, at the age of 18, he started working at a gym and met Laura Richards, 19, and the pair immediately fell for each other.
Three years on they are still going strong, looking for a house together and thinking about children.
Laura says: "I know he looks different, but if he'd looked 'normal', then maybe I wouldn't have noticed him at all, and I would have never realised he is the most beautiful and bravest person I had ever met."
Jono is now a support worker for people with learning difficulties, whilst Laura works with people with physical difficulties. Jono says they have talked about kids, but he finds it a difficult issue as his condition is hereditary and he would have a 50/50 chance of passing the disease onto any children.
Jono has now decided to try to find his birth parents and says he doesn’t hate them for giving him up. He says his adoptive mum Jean has shaped who he is and he cannot thank her enough.
