‘I’m considering looking at adoption’ - Anna Richardson on her wish to start a family
ANNA RICHARDSON OPENS UP ABOUT HER PERSONAL MENTAL HEALTH BATTLE, INFERTILITY AND MIND-BOX.
TV Presenter Anna Richardson spoke to Ruth, Coleen, Kelli and Jane about her experience of finding out that she was infertile during the filming of a TV show and considering starting ‘our own little family’ with partner Sue Perkins.
Talking about her mental health battle, Anna described an experience after which she developed PTSD. Anna described how her hotel room was broken into when she was working out in Cannes, covering the film festival.
‘I remember I was on the first floor and I opened the balcony door slightly as it was very very hot, the south of France, stripped off because it was boiling, went to bed lay there spreadeagled’ she then described how she then heard a creaking noise. A month later Anna felt herself getting anxious for unknown reasons before seeing a psychiatrist who told her she had PTSD.
She also told us how her mother’s breakdown has inspired her to create a website, www.mind-box.co.uk where members can subscribe and then webchat with therapists after there was a lack of mental health professionals to see her mother during her breakdown.
The host of Naked Attraction also opened up about what it was like learning she was infertile when she was filming the Sex Education show. She said she went with the idea after thinking she was young and healthy until she went to the fertility clinic when she says ‘I knew something was going on. Eventually the doctor appeared and said, ‘Can I have a word with you?’ And she took me to one side and she said, ‘I'm really sorry but you've got nothing. You're completely infertile’.
‘I’m sad actually careering into 50, I am sad that I’ve not had my babies so I’m considering, I can’t say for Sue but I’m considering looking at adoption and trying to just create our own little family I think, it’s important to me.’
