I was born in West London to working class parents. My dad was an electrician, my mum a school dinner lady.
I have worked as a national newspaper columnist since I was 21, and edited the Independent on Sunday. I’ve been a top television executive as well as a presenter. I’ve appeared in all sorts of programmes from I’m a Celebrity and the F word with Gordon Ramsay to Question Time. I have been married four times, and have been with my partner Peter for over eleven years-that’s longer than any of my marriages! He says he’s long-suffering, I can’t imagine why. We live in a remote bit of Yorkshire, London and Kent…
I like travelling around and can work anywhere. No pets, I love growing vegetables, cooking, walking in all weathers and hanging out with friends. I don’t have anyone I look up to - I think role models are a waste of time. I believe in setting my own style, I’m not interested in copying anyone. I do a lot of travel writing, and love visiting remote villages and mountains- I went to the border of China and India last year.
