Dr Hilary gives us some advice on the best sun protection.
Every four hours a person in the UK dies from skin cancer and a new case is diagnosed every four minutes.
- A recent Cancer Research survey found that only 17% of people in the UK would apply sun cream on a sunny day. Whilst 96% of us are prepared to slap it on whilst holidaying abroad.
- 35% of people in the UK admit to only applying sun cream after they feel their skin getting hotter or it physically burning. Unfortunately though at this point the damage has already been done.
- 26% of mums surveyed for mumsnet said they were worried that using a high factor sun cream on their child would cause a Vitamin D deficiency. There is no confirmed link between the two and it is important to remember the risks of sun damage are far greater so its always important to make sure you apply sun cream whilst out in the sun and reapply every 2-3 hours.
