You realise that older people lack affection. They want somebody to give them a hug.
– Actor and presenter Larry Lamb
Larry Lamb joined Lorraine to talk about the rising issue of loneliness during the festive season and how we can help the elderly get through the Christmas period.
For many elderly people, Christmas can be a really lonely time of year. Without family or friends to call or visit, their Christmas Day will be like any other day.
Larry Lamb talked to Lorraine about his involvement with Age UK's 'No one should have no one' Christmas campaign to combat loneliness around the festive season. He says 'there are so many old people sitting around with nobody to talk to... the telly can be their only companionship'.
Larry turned 70 years old in October and spoke of his own concerns about growing older. The Eastenders and Gavin & Stacey actor suggested that offering a simple hug to someone can be one of the many ways to help tackle loneliness.
