Ali Hall is the editor of LOOK, Britain’s best-selling fashion magazine.
Having spent 18 months working on LOOK’s development, Ali launched the weekly title in February 2007 and it became an overnight publishing sensation. Now selling 280,481 copies a week, it is one of the most successful magazine launches in the UK in the last 20 years. Ali was awarded BSME Editor of the Year 2008 and 2011 - Women's Magazines (Weekly).
LOOK is the only High Street fashion weekly and its success is largely due to its entirely unique mix of accessible fashion, glamorous but practical beauty and the hottest celebrity news and style. Ali has developed the brand to include: www.look.co.uk; the LOOK catwalk show during London fashion week; the LOOK Shoe with Office (one of their top 5 best selling high-heeled shoes of the season) and has designed and launched LOOK Beauty, a complete beauty range available in Superdrug.
Women’s issues are also at the heart of what Ali does. She made LOOK the only fashion magazine to include curvy models in its fashion pages every week, even partnering with ITV1’s Lorraine to launch the UK’s first curvy supermodel search.
Ali was also the only journalist allowed to interview the prime minister whilst accompanying him on a trip to Afghanistan where she highlighted the plight of female soldiers over there.
Ali began her career as a reporter on regional newspapers before making her move to EMAP as features assistant on Slimming magazine. Three years later in 2000, she was appointed editor, securing the titles first ABC increase in a decade.
Whilst editing Slimming magazine, Ali proposed – and subsequently launched – Celebrity Bodies, a bi-monthly magazine focussing on celebrity diets. Poached by Bliss magazine as deputy editor, Ali was promoted to acting editor within 6 weeks and just 6 months later lured to More! as editor.
During her tenure at More!, Ali instigated and successfully implemented a major relaunch of the title. Whilst every rival title was experiencing ABC sales decline, More! was the exception – securing four consecutive ABC increases, boosting the title’s total ABC by over 12%.
Ali is a regular contributor to both local and national radio and TV shows, including, Lorraine, Sky One and Channel 5 news. Subjects she has commented on include all aspects of fashion and beauty, celebrity, relationships and women’s issues.
