Lisa Faulkner's beef burgers are made with grated apple and chive and served with toppings of your choice.
500g minced lean beef
1 apple, peeled and grated (Braeburn is a good choice!)
1-2 onions, grated
1 tbsp freshly chopped chives
Dash of Worcestershire sauce
Flour, for dusting
1 tbsp vegetable or sunflower oil, for frying
Salt and pepper
Griddled wholegrain burger buns, salad, onion rings, reduced fat mayonnaise and ketchup
1. This first step is optional depending on how you like your burgers. Put the mince in a food processor and pulse – simply to make the mince less chewy.
2. Mix all the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl, season and then shape the mince into either 4 large patties about 5cm diameter or 8 mini burgers, which would be ideal for children. Transfer the burgers to the fridge for 30 minutes to chill and then dust with flour.
3. Heat a little oil in a non-stick frying pan and cook the burgers over a medium heat for about 6 minutes on each side until cooked through.
4. Serve the burgers in griddled buns, salad, onion rings, reduced fat mayonnaise and ketchup.
