Winter bloomers near you

Tuesday is the 2nd of Feb - Candlemas in this country - and Groundhog Day in the USA and if the groundhog casts no shadow and goes back in its burrow then winter may be over. But even though Spring seems a long way away, there are gardens in our region that life our spirits even in the depths of winter. From the formal splendour of estates like Blenheim and Chartwell, to the rambling charm of favourites like Sissinghurst. What's great is their variety over the changing seasons, and over the coming year we'll be exploring the very best of what the region has to offer. Rachel Hepworth starts her journey, with the first signs of spring around the corner
