Ukraine: More military equipment sent from Russia

Russia continues to send more military equipment and "mercenaries" into eastern Ukraine, Ukraine's Defence and security council said.

The council's officials called Russia's actions a "direct military aggression."

Nato Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Friday Russian forces were engaged in direct military operations inside Ukraine in a "blatant violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."


Russia demands MH17 black box data release

Russia has launched a media attack on Western countries, demanding to know why international investigators have yet to publish the black box data from a Malaysian airliner that was shot down over eastern Ukraine in July, a deputy defence minister said in an interview published on Saturday.

The Netherlands, which had 195 nationals on board the flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, is leading the international investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

Moscow blames Ukraine for the disaster, in which all 298 passengers and crew were killed. In a version of events widely believed in the West, Ukraine says the Boeing 777 was shot down by pro-Russian separatists with a surface-to-air missile.

One or two showers may also be seen in north-west England and North Wales but elsewhere will be mainly dry with plenty of sunshine.

It will still feel cool in the westerly breeze with top temperatures of 21 Celsius (70F).

Cameron and Clegg to hold talks over terror threat

David Cameron and Nick Clegg will hold talks this weekend to discuss new measures designed to tackle terror threat in the UK, according to reports.

The Prime Minister is set to attend an EU summit in Brussels today, where he is expected to push for a Europe-wide action to tackle terrorist group Isis.

The move follows the announcement on Friday that the UK's terror threat has been upgraded from "substantial" to "severe", with the Home Secretary saying an attempted attack was now "highly likely".

The Prime Minister will make a statement in the Commons on Monday, spelling out the extra powers after acknowledging there were "gaps in our armoury" which needed to be filled.


Galloway spends the night in hospital after street attack

Controversial Respect MP George Galloway spent the night in hospital after after he was beaten up in the street. The pro-Palestine Bradford West MP suffered a suspected broken jaw, broken rib and bruising in the attack in Golborne Road, Notting Hill, London.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

The Respect Party tweeted a picture showing two red lumps on his right temple.

Wearing a black jacket and white shirt, Mr Galloway looked defiant in the picture taken in the street as he made his way to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington.

Mr Galloway had been posing for pictures when a man shouted a comment about the Holocaust and attacked him, according to his spokesman. Police were quickly on the scene and made an arrest.
