Turkey directly supporting rebel groups, Syrian Govt says

Syria's government has said Turkish shelling of northern Syria amounts to direct support for rebel groups, Syrian state TV has reported, citing a letter to the United Nations.

In recent days, Turkey has targeted areas including an airbase captured by the Syrian Kurdish YPG alliance.

The country's prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu has threatened retaliation "against every step" if the YPG do not leave the airbase.

The Syrian government condemned statements by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as "blatant interference" in Syrian affairs.

Venue where Viola Beach were due to play 'devastated'

Viola Beach had been due to play at The Boileroom in Guildford, Surrey, on Saturday, before the car crash in Sweden.

The concert, headlined by artists Blossoms, was cancelled following the accident, which reportedly claimed the lives of all four band members and their manager.

The Boileroom said in a statement: "Last night upon receiving the news the opening band Viola Beach had been involved in an accident, the decision was made by the headline artists Blossoms to cancel the performance.

"We are saddened and devastated as details have come to light of this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with friends and family."

'Unexplained' death of care home resident investigated

Police are investigating the "unexplained" death of a resident whose body was found in the grounds of a care home in the early hours of Saturday.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out to establish the cause of the 75-year-old woman's death, at a residential home in Stickney, near Boston, Lincolnshire Police said.

Manchester City fans plan tribute to Viola Beach manager

Manchester City fans are planning to pay their respects to the manager of band Viola Beach after he was reportedly killed in a car crash in Sweden.

Their manager was named on social media by friends and the club as Craig Tarry, a Manchester City supporter.

Gemma Hepworth, who said she was previously in a relationship with Mr Tarry, called on City fans to hold a minute's applause for him in the fifth minute of their match against Tottenham on Sunday.

She wrote on Instagram: "I'm going to be at the match and I'll be clapping for you, my lovely."

Tributes paid to Viola Beach, feared dead in Sweden crash

Social media has been flooded with tributes to British band Viola Beach after the group and their manager were reportedly killed in a car crash in Sweden.

Radio One DJ Huw Stephens wrote on Twitter: "So sorry to hear the news about Viola Beach and their manager. The saddest news. Thinking of all their families at this awful time."

Band Model Aeroplanes tweeted: "We are devastated at the news of the tragic deaths of Viola Beach and their manager. It was an honour to spend time with you. RIP brothers."

Theresa Griffin, Labour MEP for the North West of England, former Strictly Come Dancing winner Abbey Clancy and actor Martin Kemp also paid tribute to the group.
