Saudi-led air forces strike Yemeni Houthi fighters convoy

Saudi-led air forces struck a convoy of Yemeni Houthi fighters advancing on Aden from the east on Saturday, residents said, and the Saudi navy evacuated diplomats from the southern port city.

The Iranian-allied Shi'ite Muslim Houthi fighters, seeking to overthrow the Western- and Saudi-allied President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, have continued to make gains since the Saudi-led coalition launched air strikes against them early on Thursday.

On Friday, the Houthis and allied army units gained their first foothold on Yemen's Arabian Sea coast by seizing the port of Shaqra, 100km (60 miles) east of Aden, allowing them to open a new front to march on the south's main city.

Sir Elton John's mother has spoken of their seven-year rift with her son, saying that she believes David Furnish has a controlling influence over the singer.

Prompted by her milestone 90th birthday, Sir Elton got in touch with his mother Sheila Farebrother for the first time in seven years.

But the widow told the Daily Mail it is up to her son to try and reconcile the relationship, but that she wants nothing to do with Furnish.

I am happy now. I've got over all the hurt of those seven years. I've got over all the nasty things and the hurtfulness.

And really, Furnish doesn't want to be with me and I certainly don't want to be with him.

– Sheila Farebrother, Elton John's mother

She said that the rift with her Grammy award winning son started when he asked her to cut ties with two of her oldest friends, who had also been part of his early success, Bob Halley and John Reid, which she refused.

Mrs Farebrother has still not met the couple's two sons but the singer continues to support his mother financially paying for her home and medical bills.
