Rescuers search for diver missing in Channel

Rescuers are searching for a diver off the South coast after they failed to resurface during a trip.

The Coastguard was called to an area of the English Channel south of Swanage at 4.40pm after reports that a diver had gone missing.

The dive vessel Emma J alerted authorities after only two of three drivers resurfaced during a trip.

Mark Rodaway, operations centre commander at the National Maritime Operations Centre, which is currently overseeing the search, said: "This is a significant incident.

"This diver has been missing for more than three hours and clearly this is very serious. We are concentrating our search on this area and will continue to do so."

Police in New Jersey have declined to comment on whether Nobel Prize winning mathematician John Nash and his wife were wearing seat belts when they were killed in a car crash.

Nash, 86, and his wife Alicia, 82, died after being thrown from the car when the driver lost control and hit a rail guard and another car on Saturday.

The academic's struggle with mental illness inspired the film A Beautiful Mind, starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly.


Police continue to hunt Jed Allen over Didcot murders

Police are continuing to hunt 21-year-old Jed Allen in connection with the murders of his mother, her partner and their six-year-old daughter.

Janet Jordon, 48, Philip Howard, 44, and little Derin were found dead at their home in Didcot, Oxfordshire, with stab wounds last night.

Detectives said they are searching university parks where landscape gardener Allen worked in case he is hiding there.

They urged the public not to approach him but said they did not believe he was a danger to anyone.

This is the third murder victim found stabbed along with his partner and their six-year-old daughter in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

The bodies of Philip Howard, 44, Janet Jordon, 48, and little Derin Jordan were discovered at their home last night.

Police are hunting Janet's 21-year-old son Jed Allen in connection with the killings.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed a 21-year-old man they are hunting in connection with the stabbing of a family in Didcot in Oxfordshire, is the son of one of the victims.

The force said Jed Allen is the son of 48-year-old Janet Jordon, who was found dead along with Philip Howard, 44, and their six-year-old daughter Derin Jordon at their home in Vicarage Road last night.

Post mortem tests are due to take place tomorrow but police said early indications are that all three of the victims sustained knife wounds which are believed to be the cause of death.

Officers are searching areas in Didcot and Oxfordshire for Jed Allen and have urged members of the public not to approach him but to call 999 if they see him.
