Police said they believe Mr Allen boarded a train from Didcot to Oxford at 5.24pm and arrived in Oxford at 5.45pm before entering WH Smith.

He is then said to have walked to Oxford University Parks.

“Jed is wearing a red or maroon shirt, a dark hooded jacket with a white trim on the zip, blue jeans and black shoes," Detective Superintendent Chris Ward said.

He again urged the public not to approach the suspect, instead encouraging them to call 999 "immediately".

He also warned anyone who may be "harbouring" Mr Allen to contact police.
