Sentencing Lowe at Guildford Crown Court, Mr Justice Singh praised the "extraordinary courage" of Lucy Lee after she returned to face her killer following a frantic 999 call on the day of the shootings.

Lowe, flanked by three security officers, winked at his supporters in the public gallery as he was led from the dock.

Abuse victims unanimously call for Woolf to step down

Alleged victims of abuse have unanimously called for Fiona Woolf to quit as head of an inquiry into a possible Westminster sex ring.

Lawyers representing them met with the inquiry panel for the first time today and claimed Woolf is "unsuitable" to lead the investigation.

Alison Millar, of law firm Leigh Day who represents survivors of child abuse, said: "The unanimous view from the representatives of all the groups present today is that there needs to be a statutory inquiry with full compulsory powers to seize documents and compel witnesses to give evidence.

"Concern was raised that if the inquiry was not headed by a high court judge then it would not be practically possible to take criminal proceedings for contempt if truthful evidence was withheld."

Whistleblower: Woolf's appointment is 'insult to victims'

The appointment of Fiona Woolf as head of the inquiry into an alleged child abuse ring within Westminster is an "insult to victims", the whistleblower who first raised the claims said.

Former child protection worker Peter McKelvie told ITV News he wanted to see a "completely independent panel" and that survivors must have the biggest say in who represents them in the investigation.

He added he did not think the government were taking it very seriously and said: "They are either very naive or there is a grand plan that isn't making sense to survivors."

Inquiry 'should not be restricted to sexual abuse'

The Westminster inquiry into alleged abuse of children in the Eighties should not be restricted to sexual abuse, a child protection expert has said.

Dr Liz Davies, child protection reader at London Metropolitan University, said: "It should be about organised child abuse. I've got survivors who were tortured but not sexually abused. Are we saying that their views are not important?"
