Royal Mail is to unveil a big jump in annual profits this week as it paves the way for a £3 billion stock market flotation later this year.

The state-owned business should report a surplus of between £300 million and £400 million - almost double the £211 million it made in operating profits last year - as it benefits from the boom in online shopping.

Light aircraft crash at Caernarfon Airport in Gwynedd

Three people have been injured in a light aircraft crash at Caernarfon Airport in Gwynedd.

North Wales Fire & Rescue Service say they received reports of the incident just before 11.30am this morning.

They confirmed one light small aircraft had flipped onto its roof during the incident.

30 crew members and three officers are in attendance, with special appliances from Holyhead, Caernarfon, Llanberis and Pwllheli.

Off-road vehicles from Porthmadog and Llangefni are also at the scene.

The mother, an assistant accountant, had won custody of the children following her divorce and had left to live in Isere, a region to the south-east of Lyon, while the unemployed father continued to live in the flat, according to the Parisien paper.

Woman spots former husband with 'blood-stained clothes'

French news reports claimed the 48-year-old man was arrested after his former wife spotted him on the stairs to his flat with blood-stained clothes. Several witnesses reportedly spotted the man fleeing the scene, in Saint-Priest, a suburb to the south-east of Lyon, on roller skates.

He and his ex-wife were said to have recently gone through a difficult divorce. The father was reportedly taken into custody following a manhunt yesterday evening.

Briton 'held in France' over child deaths

The Foreign Office is investigating reports that a British man has been arrested on suspicion of slitting the throats of his two children in France.

The bodies of the youngsters, said to be aged five and 10, were discovered in a flat near Lyon yesterday afternoon, according to local reports.
