Ebola nurse defies quarantine by going on bike ride

The US nurse who vowed to defy a quarantine order for health care workers who have treated Ebola patients went for a bike ride this morning, in defiance of a state quarantine placed on her.

In this NBC News video, Kaci Hickox is seen riding past reporters outside her boyfriend's home in Fort Kent, Maine.

Ms Hickox claims there is no need for quarantine because she is showing no symptoms and has threatened to sue over her treatment since she returned home from Africa.

Eleven bailed on child sex charges in Manchester

Eleven people arrested as part of a crackdown on child sexual exploitation in the south Manchester area have been released on police bail, Greater Manchester Police said.

The alleged offences include sexual activity with a child, attempted indecent assault, inciting a child into prostitution, abduction and rape.

The nine men and two women have been released on police bail until late November, pending further enquiries, a force spokesman said.

The president of Burkina Faso has scrapped plans to extend his 27-year rule after protesters set fire to the parliament building.

Thousands of people have stormed parliament and state television buildings in protest at plans by President Blaise Compaore to change the law to enable him to stand for re-election next year.

Government officials said the proposals had been dropped in the wake of the violence.

At least three protesters have reportedly been shot dead with several others wounded.

France has appealed for calm in its former colony, calling on all parties to show "restraint".
