Lightning strike injures seven near Florida NFL stadium

Seven people were taken to hospital after lightning hit a car park near the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American Football stadium in Florida.

A spokesman for Tampa Fire and Rescue said that it didn't appear that anyone was struck directly by the lightning and that no one suffered any serious injuries.

Earlier, the Green Bay Packers beat the Buccaneers 20-3.

A gunman told passers-by to "watch what I'm going to do" before shooting dead two New York police officers.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Ismaaiyl Brinsley spoke to people on the street just moments before murdering officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in Brooklyn.

Boyce said the 28-year-old had a criminal past and had ranted online about the police, government and the state of his own life.

Man arrested on murder charge after Florida police shooting

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on a charge of first-degree murder following the shooting of a police officer in Florida this morning.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that a man named Marco Antonio Parilla Jr had been taken into custody after he was seen fleeing the shooting scene before crashing into a pole and another vehicle.

Police officer Charles Kondek, 45, died in hospital after being gunned down in Tarpon Springs at around 2am local time today.

Man shouting 'Allahu Akbar' drives into crowd in France

A driver shouting "God is great" in Arabic has reportedly driven into a crowd of people in the eastern French city of Dijon leaving 11 people injured, two seriously.

Images posted on social media in the immediate aftermath appeared to show paramedics treating multiple casualties in the road.

A source told AFP news agency that the motives of the attacker remained "unclear".

The reported attack comes just a day after a man was shot dead after attacking three police officers with a knife in Joue-les-Tours.


Elton John describes wedding as the 'perfect day'

Sir Elton John has said today has been "the perfect day" after getting married to long-term partner David Furnish.

The singing legend posted a picture, on Instagram, of some of the wedding cards he and his new husband had received along with the message: "The perfect end to the perfect day. So many kind thoughts and wishes."
