Costa Rica opens investigation into Fifa executive

Costa Rica's Attorney General's office has said it has opened an investigation into its Fifa executive Eduardo Li, one of the Fifa executives arrested in Zurich on suspicion of corruption, adding that its prosecutors were in contact with US law enforcement.

Li, the president of Costa Rica's soccer federation, is one of seven FIFA executives who were arrested in a hotel in Zurich after they were named in a US Department of Justice corruption investigation.

The US attorney general Loretta Lynch has said that the 14 Fifa officials arrested on charges of corruption and bribery charges "corrupted soccer to serve their interests, and enrich themselves."
