Nicola Sturgeon pulls off pre-election balancing act

Scottish National Party leader Nicola Sturgeon has shown off some of the balancing skills she may need after the election on a visit to a gym club today.

Ms Sturgeon managed not to use her hands, keep talking and stay upright as she walked across a balancing beam gym apparatus in front of cameras and a group of press photographers.


Video shows panic as an avalanche hits Everest camp

A mountaineer on Everest has posted a video on YouTube, apparently showing the moment an avalanche hit base camp following the devastating earthquake in Nepal.

The shocking footage appears to show a huge cloud of snow and rock cascading down onto the campsite from the mountain.

German adventurer Jost Kobusch posted the footage to his YouTube channel earlier today.

In the video, some of the climbers comment that "the ground is shaking" before turning around to see the huge moving wall of ice and debris descending onto their tents and engulfing them.

PM: UK search and rescue team on way to Nepal

Prime Minister David Cameron has said a UK search and rescue team is on its way to Nepal tonight to help the devastated country following the earthquake which has killed at least 2,500 people.

Nepal has been overwhelmed by the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck the country yesterday.

It's now become clear that more than 2,500 people were killed and more than 4,000 others were injured when the powerful quake struck the Himalayan nation.

Lib Dems and Tories condemn Labour rent cap plans

Ed Miliband has insisted Labour's new plan for rent controls in England is "the right thing to do" despite widespread criticism of the policy.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg said the proposal would lead to "massive price hikes" and Boris Johnson said it would be "disastrous".
