British intelligence working to verify 'execution' video

Ferguson: 47 arrests overnight after urine thrown at police

Police in Ferguson, Missouri made 47 arrests overnight as protests continued more than a week after the police shooting of unarmed black teenager Mike Brown.

USA Today Reporter Yamiche Alcindor, who is at the scene, reported protesters threw glass, plastic bottles and urine at officers.

The case is expected to take on a new turn later today when state prosecutors begin presenting evidence over the shooting to a grand jury.

IS fighter with British accent says US is fighting 'Islamic army'

An Islamic State fighter who speaks with a British accent warns the US it is now fighting an "Islamic army" before apparently beheading US journalist James Foley.

The militant accuses the US of being at the "forefront of aggression towards the Islamic State".

He warns President Obama any attempts to "deny Muslims their rights of living in safety under the Islamic caliphate will result in the bloodshed of your people.”

"You're no longer fighting an insurgency. We are an Islamic army," he says.

111-year-old from Japan named world's oldest man

An 111-year-old retired teacher from Japan has been officially named the world's oldest living man.

Sakari Momoi, who was born on February 5, 1903, received a certificate from Guinness World Records today.

He succeeds Alexander Imich, of New York, who died in April at the age of 111 years, 164 days.

The world's oldest living person is also Japanese: Misao Okawa, a 116-year-old woman from Osaka.

Father-of-five Mr Momoi used to work as a high school principal near Tokyo. He now lives in a nursing home.

Iraq: World must back us against 'savage' Islamic State

Iraq's foreign minister has urged the world to back the country against the "savage" Islamic State after a video appearing to show the beheading of a US journalist was posted on YouTube.

Hoshiyar Zebari told the Reuters news agency that Islamic State was a threat to the world, not just to Iraq's minority ethnic groups whose members it has killed in its latest sweep through the north.
