Irish executive to be released after Rio tickets arrest

THG Sports director Kevin Mallon, who was arrested in Rio over an alleged ticket touting operation at the Olympics, is "shortly to be released from preventative detention", a spokesman for his company has said.

The Irish national was arrested for conspiracy and helping to sell tickets illegally to the Rio Games, local police said.

Italy quake death toll rises to at least 290

The number of people killed in Italy's earthquake has risen to 290 as the country holds a national day of mourning.

A state funeral attended by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has been held in the city of Ascoli Piceno for 35 of the victims.

Search and rescue operations are continuing but have been hampered by hundreds of aftershocks since the 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck on Wednesday.
