At least 1,130 people have been killed by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal according to a police spokesman.
The quake struck between the capital Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara. 634 people were reported dead in the Kathmandu Valley and at least 300 more in the capital.
A further 36 fatalities were reported in northern India, 12 in Chinese Tibet and four in Bangladesh.
The Foreign Secretary has said that the British Embassy in Nepal is offering assistance to Nepalese authorities following a devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake.

Climber Arjun Vajpai, who was at a base camp in Makalu when the Nepal earthquake struck, has sent a mobile phone video to Reuters news agency describing the scene shortly after an avalanche was triggered by the tremors.
He said he was concerned about team members who had climbed higher up the mountain just before the 7.9 magnitude quake stuck.
Makalu base camp is used by several expedition groups to climb Everest via Sherpani Pass.
An Indian army mountaineering team found 18 bodies on Mount Everest after a huge earthquake in Nepal unleashed an avalanche on the mountain, according to an army spokesman quoted by Reuters news agency.
Nepal's Tourism Ministry could only confirm 10 deaths, but spokesman Gyanendra Shrestha said that the death toll could rise, and that the avalanche had buried part of the base camp.
Ministry officials estimated that at least 1,000 climbers, including about 400 foreigners, had been at base camp or on Everest when the earthquake struck.
Saturday's 7.9-magnitude quake was the strongest to hit Nepal for 81 years and was known to have killed nearly 900 people in Nepal.

More than half of the victims are in the Kathmandu Valley. A further 34 fatalities were reported in northern India and one in Bangladesh.
A tourism official said at least 10 people were also killed when an avalanche triggered by the earthquake swept through the Everest base camp, where more than 1,000 climbers had gathered at the start of the annual climbing season.
The US is "ready to help" with the disaster relief efforts in Nepal, the country's Ambassador to the stricken country has said.
In a tweet, Ambassador Peter W. Boddle said he had been in touch with the USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Asistance, who he claims are working on the US response to the deadly earthquake.
Police have named the body of a woman found in a flat in Pontypridd as 47-year-old Tracey Woodford.
South Wales Police has also confirmed her body was found dismembered.
Her next of kin have been informed.
A 50 year-old man remains in police custody following arrest and is assisting police with enquiries.
The suspect’s address and other identified scenes are now subject to the police investigation.
Tracey was last seen leaving a pub in the town on Tuesday evening. She was found at a block of flats on Andrews Court in the Graig area of Pontypridd on Friday.
Police said Tracey's family is receiving support from specially trained officers.
A Romanian mountaineer has tweeted a desperate call for help - claiming that many 'badly injured' people caught in the Everest avalanche could die unless helicopters arrive soon.
Mr Gavan tweeted this morning to say that he'd escaped a 'huge avalanche'.
Earlier, a Nepalese official said at least eight people had died on the mountain, though this number looks likely to climb.
Pictures have emerged of what is said to be the Everest base camp in the aftermath of the avalanche that claimed at least eight lives.
The same Twitter account has also tweeted a picture of what it claims is the avalanche as it happened, tumbling down Everest's south side.
