The Diamond Jubilee bandwagon rolls on to Manchester and Salford today as the Queen and Prince Philip take the train north.

They will be carrying out a series of engagements, including visits to Manchester Royal Hospitals, the town hall and the new Media City in Salford.

Big crowds are expected, although they may not match the numbers who turned out in Leicester earlier this month when the Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen. In a speech at Westminster Hall on Tuesday, the Queen re-affirmed her intention to carry on with her public duties for years to come. She will celebrate her 86th birthday next month and Prince Philip will turn 91 in June.
