Txt speak 4 the PM, LOL
Rebekah Brooks told the Leveson Inquiry into press standards that David Cameron would sign his texts LOL, thinking it meant 'lots of love'.
Mrs Brooks said she later told him it actually means 'lough out loud,' after which the PM stopped using the signoff.
In case you struggle with the dizzying amount of text speak we use today, here is a quick guide:
- BRB: Be right back
- LOL: Laugh out loud
- LOLZ: Lots of laughs
- OMG: Oh my God
- IBK: Idiot behind keyboard
- IDGI: I don't get it
- ROFL: Rolling on the floor laughing
- BYOB: Bring your own bottle
- BTW: By the way
- TMI: Too much information
- ZZZ: Bored, sleeping or tired
- SMH: Shake my head
- KMT: Kiss my teeth
- IDR: I don't recall
There has been some debate and sympathy for the Prime Minister on twitter.
I use LOL to mean 'loads of landfill'. #leveson
From @Aiannucci on Twitter:#LOLgate Maybe the PM meant Love Our Leveson or is that Losing on Leveson?
From @lucymanning on Twitter:If you are still confused, and want to speak entirely in text, you can find a full list of acronyms on netlingo.
