Some news to lighten the mood. Union members at the General Motors plant in Ellesmere Port are voting today on a package of changes that are likely to seal the future of the plant there.
They are expected to say yes to some changes to working conditions. Put that together with a lot of lobbying from the government, General Motors are likely to confirm tomorrow that the plant will stay open, and a plant in Germany may close.
This is the opposite of the outcome that was expected afew months ago. But after co-operation between unions, ministers and the company, more than 2,000 jobs in Cheshire look to be safe.
