Celebrities arrive for TV's big night at the BAFTAs

Some of television's biggest stars are on the red carpet tonight at the Television BAFTAs in central London.

Actors including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tamsin Greig and Dominic West are among the names competing for the awards.

The Wire star West is in the running for the best actor award for his role in ITV1's Appropriate Adult. The drama about serial killer Fred West heads the shortlist with four nominations in total.

Alongside West, the best actor nominees are Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, John Simm (Exile) and Joseph Gilgun (This Is England '88).

Speaking to Nina Nannar Benedict Cumberbatch revealed why he thinks the Drama is so successful.

The 'Best Soap' category is also fiercely **fought. Coronation Street star Bill Roache who plays Ken Barlow says they always expect a nomination but winning the award is another matter.
