The Ministry of Defence has announced a Royal Navy sailor has gone missing in Dubai.
At this stage, the MoD is unable to rule out a sinister reason for his disappearance. The family of Leading Seaman Timothy MacColl, from Gosport in Hampshire, has appealed to the people of Dubai for help in finding him.
Leading Seaman MacColl, known as Timmy to his family, is a member of the crew of HMS Westminster.
The ship was docked in Port Rashid last weekend and the sailor has not been seen since the early hours of Sunday.
He had just left a bar at the Regent Hotel, a 15-minute drive from the port, and was alone when he got into a taxi at around 2am.
His wife Rachel, who is expecting the couple's third child, said:
We are desperately worried.
Checks have been made with hospitals, prisons, police stations, medical stations and mortuaries and there is no record of him and no sightings so far.
A source at the Ministry of Defence says nothing is being ruled out including kidnapping, although the source stresses that would be the worst case scenario.
Foreign Office staff in the United Arab Emirates are working closely with the police there in the hunt for the Briton.
