Earlier this afternoon the trio beat Canada in their heat - covering the track in three minutes, 14.682 seconds.

  • GOLD: Great Britain: three minutes 14.051 seconds
  • SILVER: USA: three minutes 19.727 seconds
  • BRONZE: Canada: three minutes 17.915 seconds

The trio told the BBC afterwards the race was the culmination of years of hard work:

Pretty amazing, eh? I don't think we expected it. I think here maybe we expected (to break the world record in) one of the rounds but not in every single ride like we did. We just can't believe it really.

It's mad. I actually can't believe it. I feel dead emotional right now. It was my dream. It's been my dream since I was eight, and we've just gone and done it.

– Laura Trott

I could tell we were winning by the noise of the crowd ... they were shouting so loud that they really sped us on in that last kilometre. That was the best.

We're like sisters and I couldn't have done it without them. They were absolutely incredible and I can't believe we've done it, it's absolutely amazing.
