Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council which organises London Fashion Week, said the event had got off to a "fantastic" start.

"It's been a really strong start, it's always a little bit of a whirlwind on the first day but I think there's a real buzz out there and a lot of excitement."

Sixties modelling icon, Twiggy, attended the Sass and Bide show. Speaking ahead of it, she said:

London's London - we're the best. What's great about London is whether you're talking about fashion, performance or art, we've always got an edge.

London's always had that special magic. You can't really put your finger on it but it's always been there.

Saturday's line-up includes Clements Ribeiro, Issa London, and one of the Duchess of Cambridge's favourite British fashion labels Whistles.
