Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has stood by a secretly filmed video in which he describes Obama voters as 'victims' and 'dependent' on government.
He also said that US President Barack Obama's campaign approach was 'attractive to people who are not paying taxes.'
The comments were allegedly made at a private event for Republican donors.
The former Governor of Massachusetts confirmed in a hastily called news conference late last night that he stood by his comments but said they were not 'elegantly stated'
Obama's campaign quickly pounced on the video, and made it public, on a day that Romney's campaign conceded it needed a change in campaign strategy to gain momentum in the presidential race.
Although the Republican candidate did not dispute the authenticity of the hidden-camera video, he did call for the release of the full video, instead of the clips posted online.
Mr Romney will go head-to-head with the incumbent President Barack Obama in November's general election.
