There are three battleground states that matter more than any other: Ohio, Florida and Virginia. There are new polls out for each:

  • Florida: Obama 47%, Romney 46% (SurveyUSA)
  • Ohio: Obama 47%, Romney 47% (Gravis)
  • Virginia: Obama 49%, Romney 47% (Public Policy Polling)

As I wrote earlier, and as these latest polls illustrate, it is stunningly close with just over two weeks to go until election day.

The race may be determined by the final Presidential debate.

It may be influenced by an external event. For example, the latest unemployment numbers will be released on November 2nd, just four days before the election. That may allow voters to conclude the US economy is indeed recovering under President Obama.

But most likely the race will be decided by what the strategists call the "ground game" - the ability to generate last-minute enthusiasm and to get your supporters to turn out and vote.
