One-hit-wonder Chesney Hawkes insists he is famous enough to open a Christmas ice-rink

The one and only Chesney Hawkes insists he is famous enough to open a Christmas ice-rink in Hastings.

The one-hit wonder singer faced a backlash from residents in East Sussex who claimed his fame faded a long time ago.

Many were expecting Madness singer Suggs instead.

Chesney defended his celebrity status on Twitter and said he was looking forward to coming to Hastings, in a long tweet entitled The Battle of Hastings:

I've just had two of the best weeks of my life filming 'Panto', a show written by John Bishop that'll be shown on ITV at Christmas.

This morning I woke up in my hotel in Lancaster where the show was filmed and unexpectedly found myself in all the papers.

I've been booked to open the ice rink in Hastings and it seems that someone's complained that I'm not famous enough.

Well I am now.

Whoever started this, please get in touch. The least I can do is buy you a drink.

Look forward to seeing you next week Hastings.

Chesney is due to appear in Hastings on December 6th.
